Auckland’s representative squads continue to set high standards, and the upcoming 1-5 Octagonal event provides another opportunity for emerging talent to shine. This new addition to the bowls calendar will see Auckland’s 1-5 squad take to the greens at Mairangi Bay, aiming to build on the success of both the Development and Premier sides.
Selectors faced a particularly challenging task in naming the team, given the exceptional performances from squad members in recent months. With a limited number of spots available, the final selection was intense!
“This was a tough selection process—not only is this the smallest playing side we’ve named this season, but also because so many squad members have been in outstanding form. From strong performances at Nationals and high-profile events to winning club championships in both open and 1-5 grades, the depth of talent made our decisions incredibly difficult,” selectors commented.
The 1-5 Octagonal promises to be a highly competitive event, offering a platform for Auckland’s rising stars to test themselves against strong opposition. Hawkes Bay joins the competition once again this year and will be a side to watch. Auckland’s closely fought rivalry with North Harbour will also have a major impact on the results table.
With momentum from recent successes and a talented squad assembled, the team will be eager to debut their name at the top of the new trophy.
