Exciting changes for the Playing Programme Committee
19 December 2024

The Playing Programme Committee (PPC) is an integral part of Bowls Auckland, ensuring bowlers have a voice in shaping the season in key elements of the season. From crafting the playing calendar to refining formats, the PPC ensures a strategic lens is a focus in the decision-making process – blending tradition with innovation, making bowls a vibrant sport for current and future generations.

We’re thrilled to announce an important change within the PPC. Helen Blick, who has been a cornerstone of the committee for eight years, was recently elected as Bowls Auckland President. To allow Helen to focus on her dual responsibilities as President and Board Member, we’re delighted to welcome Lesley McLinden as her successor. Lesley, a highly experienced bowler from Bridge Park with a strong business background will officially join the committee on 1 January 2025.

Meet the PPC Team
The PPC continues to bring together skilled and passionate members from across the bowling community:
• Gavin Brown (Royal Oak)
• Bryan Chapman (Howick)
• Lesley McLinden (Bridge Park) *
• Fiona Matheson (Kohimarama)
• Les Smith (Ōtāhuhu Railway)
• Brendon Walton (Bowls Auckland Representative)

*Lesley replaces Helen Blick on 1 January 2025.

What does the PPC do?
In simple terms, the PPC acts as the ‘set-up crew,’ laying the foundation for the season’s calendar and Conditions of Play. Their planning ensures that the Tournament Convenor, Umpires, and Bowls Auckland team can deliver seamless events.

It is important to note, that if you have queries about entries, draws, or venues once an event entry is open, the first points of contact are the Tournament Convenor or Brendon Walton. This ensures prompt and accurate assistance.

We warmly welcome Lesley to her new role and extend heartfelt thanks to Helen and the entire PPC for their dedication to making bowls an awesome sport.
