In a delightful twist on traditional sports events, Auckland recently hosted its version of the Super Bowl, aptly dubbed the ‘Super Lawn Bowl.’ Instead of gridiron clashes, the evening was filled with fun and fast-paced lawn bowls action, featuring a lineup of media and sports personalities.
Organised in collaboration with The Alternative Commentary Collective and supported by Movember, the event, on Monday, 18 February, was a roaring success. Bowls Auckland managed the logistics while the ACC brought the star power, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of the famed ‘Black Clash,’ albeit with bowls instead of cricket or rugby.
The event showcased four celebrity teams representing The Alternative Commentary Collective, Radio Hauraki, The Sports Anchorman, and the Movember Olympians. Each team had a skilled bowler, ensuring a level playing field and adding to the competitive spirit.
While Radio Hauraki emerged victorious, lifting the coveted trophy, the true winner of the day was the sport of bowls itself. The event not only provided entertainment but also showcased the inclusive and enjoyable nature of lawn bowls.
With its resounding success, the ACC is already looking forward to hosting the event again next year, promising another evening of laughter, and thrilling bowls action.
