In a jubilant display of skill and sportsmanship, Howick Bowling Club once more set the stage for the exciting Premier Development Octagonal, drawing emerging talent from across the North Island for its highly anticipated second year.
Amidst the cheers and camaraderie, eight Centres, including new contenders from Wellington and Hawke’s Bay, joined the challenge alongside teams from Auckland, Northland, North Harbour, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, and Counties Manukau to transform the greens – all vying for the coveted title!
Under the azure skies and meticulously maintained greens by greenkeeper Paul Hickey and his team, the stage was set for a competitive spectacle. North Harbour surged ahead on the first day, only to be out-manoeuvred by the relentless Bay of Plenty challengers, whose valiant efforts clinched them the championship crown.
As the competition unfolded, Auckland made a notable comeback after a day one start to be forgotten. Clinching third in the Men’s category and second in the Women’s to secure fourth place overall. They were just behind North Harbour, with whom they were tied in match points but lagged slightly in rink points.
Meanwhile, the culinary delights courtesy of Howick’s eatery, Daisy Chang, provided a delicious backdrop to the festivities, delighting palates and adding to the event’s charm.
Amidst celebrations and accolades, the triumph of Bay of Plenty stood as a testament to the unifying spirit of sport. With unforgettable moments etched into memory, the Premier Development Octagonal once again proved why it’s become a highlight on the playing calendar.
Thanks to Howick Bowling Club and the unwavering dedication of its volunteers involved. We also extend thanks to the tournament officials for their efforts in ensuring the smooth flow of the programme. Your contributions are deeply appreciated and integral to the success of this event.
