Easter event celebrates a legacy of camaraderie

For 75 years, the East Tāmaki Bowling Club has been more than just a place to play bowls; it’s been a cornerstone of fellowship and community spirit. From its modest beginnings in a humble shed to today’s vibrant clubhouse, the club’s journey reflects the rich tapestry of its history since its establishment in 1949.

Diversity has always been at the heart of the East Tāmaki Bowling Club, with members hailing from various backgrounds and districts, each contributing their unique flair to the club’s atmosphere. This diversity, coupled with a shared passion for competition, was on full display at the recent Easter’s 75th Jubilee Fours event.

Under clear skies, 16 teams from local clubs, including a team from Bowls Auckland, alongside eight East Tamaki teams, took part in a thrilling two-day Fours event. The first day saw intense section play, setting the stage for an exciting finale on Sunday.

The celebratory atmosphere continued on Sunday, with a delicious lunch attended by 90 enthusiastic participants. Heartfelt speeches and toasts were delivered by notable figures such as Bowls Auckland Chair Ian Dee, along with Bill Littlejohn, Tere Brunton, and Colin Harris.

The event also witnessed a touching reunion, as seven of the nine living past Presidents graced the occasion with their presence. The jubilee cake, symbolising 75 years of shared memories and camaraderie, was cut by Patron Ivan Frisken and Mata Martin, marking the continuation of festivities long into Sunday night.

This jubilee wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and hard work of all involved, and heartfelt thanks were extended to everyone who contributed to making the event a resounding success.

In the spirit of competition, congratulations are for the winners: Adam Harding and his team from Homai, Division 2 victors Bryan Chapman’s team from East Tamaki, Division 3 winners Murray Dickson’s team from Pakuranga, and Division 4 champs Noeline Sadgrove’s team from Howick.

As the East Tāmaki Bowling Club looks back on 75 years of cherished memories, this jubilee serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship that continues to define the club’s legacy. Here’s to many more years of bowling excellence and community bonds.
