Originally booked for Tuesday, 5 March, fate had other plans as unfavourable weather conditions forced a reschedule. But thanks to the swift action of College Sport Auckland, a new date was set, paving the way for a fun day on the green for Monday, 8 April.

What stood out most as an indicator of success was the surge in team entries from previous years – an impressive 75 teams from 13 different schools across Auckland stepping up to the challenge. From Auckland Girls Grammar to Al-Madinah School and Ōtāhuhu College, the diversity of participants underscored the event’s ability to bring communities together in the spirit of camaraderie and fair play.

Amidst the throngs of young competitors, Arnie Reid and Karl Sohn from St Peters College clinched the top spot in a display of skill and determination. Not far behind them were June Eteuati Pasia and Mary-Lou Lisiate from Auckland Girls Grammar, securing a well-deserved silver medal and proving that excellence knows no bounds.

Leah Chan, Bowls Auckland Club Partner – Engagement was delighted with how the day unfolded, “These victories aren’t just about medals, trophies or titles; they’re a testament to the hard work and dedication invested in honing the student’s bowling skills.”

Going by all the laughter, oohs and ahhs, it was pretty clear the students were challenging each other, and having loads of fun. Vicky Mailei, Sports Relationship Manager from College Sports Auckland agrees, “It was great to see so many competing and having fun out there on a great day on the green.”

As the sun set on another successful event for Bowls Auckland, the echoes of laughter and the clinking of bowls served as a touching reminder of the power of sports to unite, inspire, and uplift. With each roll of the bowl, the legacy of the Secondary Schools Pairs Day continues to thrive, leaving a lasting mark on the hearts and minds of all who participated – bowls is a game for everybody!
