Representative bowls offer players a unique opportunity to represent their region at the highest level. For many, playing for Auckland is the pinnacle of their career, while for others, it’s a stepping stone to even greater honours, including international play.
Representing Auckland is more than just the game; it’s about unity, pride, and excellence. It brings together players from rival clubs, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose as they train and compete alongside the best. The team embodies a collective identity and mana that all of Auckland can rally behind.
Following the recent representative season, Bowls Auckland conducted an extensive review to enhance its performance strategy. This review, which included a player survey, stakeholder consultation, and collaboration with Bowls New Zealand and other sports organisations, revealed many positives. The overall player satisfaction rating was an impressive 4.2 out of 5.
This strong rating is a testament to the dedication of everyone involved in the representative programme—players, team officials (selectors, coaches, managers) and volunteers, and we extend thanks to all for their contributions.
The review also highlighted several areas of improvement:
- Increased development opportunities, on and off the green, focusing on technical, tactical, mental, and team bonding aspects.
- Implementation of more robust and transparent policies, particularly in selection and performance indicators.
- Strengthened connection with Bowls New Zealand.
- Expansion of our network with more performance coaches.
- A stronger focus on transitioning players through the system towards higher honours.
In response; Bowls Auckland has developed a new Strategy, structure, and delivery plan. This plan aims to instil a powerful sense of pride in playing for Auckland, provide targeted development opportunities for players and coaches, and elevate Auckland’s competitive standing on a national level, ultimately producing top-tier players known as Blackjacks.
To support this Strategy, Bowls Auckland is now seeking applications for key management positions, referred to as ‘team officials’—including coaches, selectors, and managers. We invite those passionate about the Strategy and capable of making a positive impact to apply. This includes incumbents wishing to reapply.
For more information, including position descriptions, or to apply, please complete the form and send it to Dean Bartlett at [email protected] by 30 June 2024.
