Over the past two days, Bowls Auckland had the privilege of hosting a series of coaching clinics led by Bowls New Zealand Head Coach, Mike Kernaghan. The sessions drew groups from the public, coaches, and representative players, creating an invaluable learning experience for all involved.
Mike’s expertise and passion for the sport of bowls shone through as he delivered tailored coaching to each group. The public enjoyed a welcoming and supportive environment to learn new skills and refine techniques, while coaches explored advanced strategies focused on mental skills and coaching methodologies to help them develop future talent.
Perhaps the most intense sessions were dedicated to our representative players, where rather than playing bowls, they engaged in an insightful Q&A with Mike. This gave players a chance to deepen their understanding of the game and sharpen their skills, providing invaluable knowledge both on and off the green.
Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with attendees praising Mike’s quality instruction, which stems from his years of experience as a top international player and coach. These sessions, not only provided immediate value but also laid a strong foundation for ongoing growth and success in the sport.
Bowls Auckland extends its heartfelt thanks to Mike Kernaghan for his time and dedication, to Royal Oak and Remuera Bowling Clubs for hosting, and to Alison Rennie and Les Eagleton for their efforts in organising the sessions. A big thank you also goes to all attendees for contributing to the success of the clinics.
We can’t wait to see the impact of these sessions on the Auckland bowls community in the seasons ahead!
