Junior Secondary Schools Pairs Day at Mt Eden Bowling Club
On Tuesday, 12 November Bowls Auckland hosted a fantastic Junior Secondary Schools Pairs Day at Mt Eden Bowling Club, drawing an enthusiastic turnout of 23 teams from schools across Auckland. It was a perfect day for bowls: the sun was shining, the BBQ was sizzling, and young players filled the green with energy and excitement.
Participating schools included St Paul’s College, St Dominic’s Catholic College, St Cuthbert’s College, Avondale College, Mt Roskill Grammar, and Rutherford College. This event was specifically designed to welcome younger high school students into the sport, creating a relaxed and fun environment where they could experience bowls without the pressure of competing against seasoned senior players. By focusing on enjoyment and camaraderie, the Junior Pairs Day provided a unique opportunity for students to try bowls in a supportive setting with their teammates.
The format of the day divided teams into two pools, where each pair played a total of five games. The competition was spirited, with everyone cheering on their friends and teammates. After a full day of play, the top honours went to Mt Roskill Grammar, who emerged as champions of Pool A, and St Dominic’s, who took the top spot in Pool B.
The Junior Secondary Schools Pairs Day was a wonderful success, underscoring Bowls Auckland’s commitment to fostering a love for bowls among young players. With this memorable experience, we look forward to seeing many of these students continue their journey in the sport!
