Meet Our Extra End Heroes
8 April 2025
A new initiative celebrating our community champions

Every club has one — that incredible person who always goes the extra end. Now, it’s time to shine a spotlight on them.

Bowls Auckland is excited to launch the Extra End Heroes Programme. This new initiative is about celebrating the community champions who help keep our clubs running strong. From rolling greens to running raffles, coaching to catering, these are the people who make the magic happen — and they often do it quietly, behind the scenes.

With 39 clubs across the region, volunteers are the beating heart of our bowls community. Their dedication, generosity, and spirit fuel the success of both competitive and social bowls. The Extra End Heroes programme will highlight and recognise these local legends — one standout volunteer at a time.

“Our volunteers are the heart of our club network and clubs are the heart of their communities,” says Bowls Auckland CEO, Dean Bartlett. “This programme is our way of saying thank you — of recognising those who go above and beyond.”

How it Works
Every two months, Bowls Auckland will select and celebrate an exceptional volunteer:
• They’ll be profiled on our website and social media
• Recognised in our Friday Flash newsletter
• Given the spotlight they so richly deserve

Who Can Be Nominated?
We’re looking for people who:
• Go the extra end, no matter the task
• Inspire others with their energy and dedication
• Make a real impact at their club or in the bowls community
• Anyone can submit a nomination — club members, committees, or fellow volunteers.

It’s quick and easy to get involved, and a great way to show someone just how much they’re appreciated.
