Which side of the Bridge is better at bowls?
Well for 2023, Bowls Auckland representatives can authoritatively stake their claim!
As the trail ends began at Howick Bowling Club, so too did the rain, which remained a feature of the day until the final bowl was played about two-thirds through the second round of play when the greens finally couldn’t take it any longer and began to flood.
The 1-5s, being hosted over the bridge in Sunnybrae, were fortunate to be able to get through the full programme. Our 1-5s had mixed results with the Men going down 10-14 while the Women edged in front 13-11, Both Development Men and Women won their matchups 12.5 and 11.5 while it was the Premier sides driving the win home for Auckland, with men and women winning 16-8
Leaving the final tally 80-64
From our side of the bridge, a massive thanks goes out to Howick for being such wonderful hosts with the most exceptional greens and hospitality, to all the markers who braved standing out in the showery rain and to Bowls NZ for coming along and providing the live stream, a first for a regional representative fixture.
With our bowling talents, and a little bit of luck with the weather, next year’s fixture will prove one not to be missed!
