Auckland Bowls wishes to congratulate all the players who participated in an exciting Finals Day on Sunday 11 April, at Remuera Bowling Club. We had a thrilling day of play, we saw players from clubs who have a smaller number of entries in the competition vying against some of the larger clubs and winning. It was also wonderful to have a great crowd attending in support.

Winner – Royal Oak: Mike Galloway, Martin Dixon, Gavin Brown, James Gavin: score 20-3
Runner up – Royal Oak: Mike Bradshaw, Bill Whitburn, Len Cumming, Mario Arnerich

Winner – Bridge Park: Teo Turua, Phil Taylor, Luka Mataora: score 14-12

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
Women’s Singles
Philly and Kimberley’s Singles match was the game of the day. It was neck-and-neck throughout with fantastic bowls played by both players. Philly held the lead for most of the match and was in front 20-18 in the final end. Kimberley was down to match ball, her last bowl trailed the jack to hold three shots. Philly’s final run shot bowl just missed her target to lose by one, with a final score of 21-20. What a match!
Women’s Pairs
This was another close-fought encounter with some marvellous shots played by both teams. After being close in the first eight ends, the score being 5-all, St Heliers got a jump on their opponent scoring eight shots in the next four ends to lead 12-5. Carlton Cornwall applied pressure scoring seven shots over the next four ends. Another three by St Heliers had them out in front 15-12 with two ends to play. Carlton only managed to score one in both of the 17 and 18 ends. St Heliers held on to take the title 15-14. Great game ladies.
Men’s Singles
This final match between Darral and Michael proved to be a little one-sided with Darral making a fast start, scoring big with some great bowling. Michael played well but whenever he was holding a shot Darral managed to counter with a better bowl, the final score was 21-6, Darral winning his first Auckland Open Centre title for Otahuhu Railway Bowling Club. Well done Darral, as you said it was a great birthday present for your dad!
Men’s Pairs
Two very experienced teams, the gold star heavyweights with a combined total of 57 Auckland Centre titles between them was bound to be a great match-up. Royal Oak started fast, scoring 6-0 after five ends, however, Mangere not to be denied won the next seven ends in a row with consistent controlled bowling to lead 13-6 after 12 ends. Royal Oak just couldn’t make any headway over the final ends to be defeated 17-12 in an absorbing match. Well done to Chris Lowe and Jordan King.
Men’s Triples
Carlton Cornwall was quick to start and lead 8-1 after five ends. Bridge Park fought back well with wins over the next five ends – the battle commenced when the scores were 10-all after 14 ends. Carlton Cornwall dropped a crucial three shots in the 15th. Carlton Cornwall fought back but Bridge Park was too strong and prevails in a close encounter 14-12. Well done to the Bridge Park team Teo, Phil and Luka for winning their first Auckland title.
Men’s Fours
This was an all Royal Oak affair with two strong teams competing for club bragging rights. The Mike Galloway lead team was consistent right from the start and dominated the Mike Bradshaw team. Mike Galloway’s team carried their form right through the match to be clear winners and thoroughly deserved the title. More hardware for the team and for the club. Well done gents.
