This past weekend, Bowls Auckland had the privilege of hosting Graeme Rees, National Coach Developer for Bowls New Zealand, who, together with Bowls Auckland Coach Developer Les Eagleton, spearheaded the Foundation and Development coaching courses. These sessions mark the beginning of many aspiring coaches’ journeys, offering an intensive and thorough curriculum designed to ‘build the foundations’ of coaching excellence.

On Sunday, further sessions were conducted for those aiming to achieve the Development level qualification. Over the two days, 17 dedicated individuals acquired invaluable knowledge, both on and off the green, ensuring they met the high standards required, for effective coaching.

The sessions were further enriched by the expertise of members of the Bowls New Zealand Performance Coaches Academy; Brendon Walton, Shaun Goldsbury, and Leon Chapman, Their presentations covered crucial coaching competencies, including SWOT analysis, mental skills, and effective communication—essential elements that form the backbone of successful athlete development and team management.

We look forward to seeing these coaches progress, as they continue to meet the official requirements for Development Coaching.
