30 July 2024

Bowls Auckland is pleased to announce the successful appointments of new board members following its 111th annual general meeting on Saturday, 27 July.

Graeme Scott concludes his tenure as Vice President and President. Reflecting on his time at Bowls Auckland, Graeme said, “I am filled with immense gratitude. It has been a privilege to work alongside such dedicated and passionate individuals who have contributed positively to the future of bowls in Auckland.”

The incumbent Vice President, Helen Blick, has been nominated as the new President. Helen warmly thanked the bowls community, commenting on her introduction to the sport, starting her journey at Kohimarama Bowling Club and achieving recent on-green successes at Carlton Cornwall. Helen looks forward to continuing her support and involvement in bowls in her new role.

Outgoing board member John Ross was thanked for his continued commitment to improving our board governance. As an active member of St Heliers, John will continue to support bowls through his involvement at St Heliers Bowling Club.

Bowls Auckland also celebrates the longstanding contributions of Bob Croker, who was awarded life membership. Kevin Hickland continues as Patron, and we welcome two new board members, Karl Andersen and Tere Brunton.

Karl Andersen

I was introduced to the sport of bowls at the Titirangi Bowling Club, where my passion for the game quickly grew. I am also an active member of the New Lynn Bowling Club.

My involvement in bowls spans across various levels, as I regularly participate in club, interclub, and centre events. My sporting background includes rugby league and karate, where I have served as a player, coach, and administrator. Currently, I am the President of the Titirangi Bowling Club, having previously held the position of Secretary.

I find bowls to be a unique and inclusive sport that can be enjoyed by individuals of all ages and skill levels. It brings people together and fosters a strong sense of community. I am committed to contributing to the further development and growth of bowls in our community, and I look forward to seeing the sport flourish and attract new enthusiasts.

Tere Brunton

Born and bred in East Auckland (Bucklands Beach and Howick) with Cook Island heritage, Tere is a self-confessed sports nut who was actively involved in many sports during his youth. He played golf and rugby at a senior level.

Tere’s bowling career began at Bucklands Beach in 1986 before moving to the Pakuranga Club in 1990. Over the past 25 years, he has served in various roles on the Executive, including Club Delegate, Match Committee, Greens Superintendent, and President since 2016. Tere is also a Foundation coach, the current Vice President of Kittyhawk Bowls, and was the Manager of the Auckland Premier and Development Rep teams last year.

A regular player in club and centre events, Tere is well-known in the Auckland bowls scene and looks forward to further contributing to the sport at the Centre level.

Now retired, Tere enjoys working with others to achieve common goals. Married for 40 years to Marleen, he has two grown-up stepsons who live on the Gold Coast.
