On Wednesday evening, 9 April, Bowls Auckland’s Performance Squads came together for a well-deserved night of celebration, connection, and reflection at the Performance End of Season Celebration.
The evening brought together players and team officials from all three squads; 1-5s, Development, and Premier – to acknowledge the season’s achievements and recognise the commitment and passion poured into the season by everyone involved.
CEO Dean Bartlett opened the evening with a recap of season highlights, both on and off the green. Off the green, the unveiling of our Find a Way strategy at the season launch set the tone for a refreshed approach, complemented by new and improved coaching initiatives. Highlights included two high-impact clinics led by international star Barrie Lester and Blackjack coach Mike Kernaghan and increased competitive opportunities with the introduction of two new Octagonal tournaments.
On the green, the squads delivered outstanding performances; wins at the Battle of the Bridge, success at all three Octagonal events, and a fantastic silver medal at the Men’s National Intercentre – a true testament to the skill and spirit of our Auckland representatives.
Adding a personal touch, one player from each squad shared reflections with the group – Mike Faircloth for the 1-5s, Dean Edge for the Development Squad, and Estelle Hickey for the Premiers – each offering insightful anecdotes and a few laughs along the way.
The evening wrapped up with a special moment as Tere Brunton presented a farewell gift to outgoing player Teo Turua, who is heading across the Tasman for an exciting new work opportunity. We wish Teo all the best in his next chapter – you’ll always be part of the Bowls Auckland whānau!
Thanks again to all players, coaches, and officials for a memorable season. Here’s to building on the momentum in 2025! 💙
