Covered greens are transforming the landscape of bowls in Auckland and across New Zealand. With the addition of all-weather, all-light greens, bowlers and the wider community can enjoy the sport more frequently. How good is that?

Currently, Auckland boasts three covered greens, with another nearing completion, and several others in the concept stage. This means the future holds even more covered greens across the region.

To support this growth and assist clubs considering the installation of a canopy, Bowls Auckland has partnered with Shade Systems New Zealand.

You may have already heard of Shade Systems or noticed their sign and work at Royal Oak Bowls, where they created the club’s fantastic, covered facility.

Shade Systems is a New Zealand-based, family-owned and operated business from sunny Dargaville. They are on a mission to provide enrichment and well-being through creating outdoor shade and shelter.

Bowls Auckland CEO Dean Bartlett commented “We appreciate the brave clubs that have already installed covers or have plans in the near future. We understand that such a project is no easy task, and we’re excited to partner with Shade Systems to help make it easier for clubs to turn their vision into reality.”

As Bowls Auckland’s preferred canopy supplier, Shade Systems has also come on board as an event partner. They will be sponsoring the region’s Champ of Champs series, now named the ‘Shade Systems NZ Champ of Champs,’ which begins in May 2025.
