After a three-week delay, the Auckland Women’s Fours Final finally took place undercover at Remuera on Sunday, 12 May. The St Heliers team, consisting of Catherine Bien, Sue Curran, Linda Fenton, and Angela Longney, showcased their resilience and skill by defeating three strong Carlton Cornwall teams in the post-section rounds to secure their spot in the final.
In both the quarterfinals and semifinals, the St Heliers team emerged victorious by the narrowest of margins, winning 14-13 and 17-16 respectively. These hard-fought victories set the stage for an exciting final against yet another Carlton Cornwall team, this one featuring Lisa Appleyard, Jo Cheng, Linda Ralph, and Judy Wong.
The final began as a tightly contested battle, with both teams neck and neck in the early stages. However, the St Heliers women pulled ahead, demonstrating their teamwork and strategic prowess to ultimately win 18-8, clinching the title for the second consecutive year.
Congratulations St Heliers.
