On Sunday 25 July 2021, eight sides (16 teams) meet at Remuera Bowling Club for the final of WinterClub 2021.
Maurice Smith, President of Remuera conducted the draw at 8:15 am with play commencing at 9:00 am – all the players were reminded, this was a team effort and aggregate totals counted!
Quarter-final 1 saw Henderson Gold take on Pringle Park Lightening. Both teams claimed a win however, the aggregate favoured the Lightning 48:54.
Quarter-final 2 saw Royal Oak Saturn take on Papatoetoe Red. This was a tightly fought match with the lead changing with every end. Once the dust settled, there was a win and a draw, which saw the aggregate favouring Papatoetoe Red 52:53.
Quarter-final 3 saw Onehunga & Districts Rays take on Pringle Park Thunder. This was another tight encounter with both teams claiming a win; however, the aggregate went the way of the Thunder 47:50.
Quarter-final 4 saw Grey Lynn Red take on Pakuranga. Again the spoils were shared between the teams with the aggregate favouring Pakuranga 47:55.
The Semi-finals saw Pringle Park teams exert their dominance and both qualified for the final.
Creating the atmosphere was music from a boom box playing band Thunder and Lightning – they characterised with hard-hitting vocals, delicate solos and pounding drums. The bowls from the players were characterising the band with hard-hitting voices of support, delicate shots and pounding drives!
It was a great final with the win and club bragging rights for the year being claimed by the Lightning. Go The Park.
